I had an ole Reel to Reel back in my hooch and at night, listening to your music was a way of escaping the daily war. Last year, I read on this site that you were performing at Buddy Greco's Place in Palm Springs. I immediatel reserved table for myself, wife and sister (she lives in souther CA).
In August, 1998, there was a little squabble erupting on the old message board involving Stargirl and tara of all people.

Rod and I were both trying to douse the flames as it were, and eventually it worked. tara & Coral were/are both quite mercurial, so they never really got along very well, but eventually they learned to understand and tolerate each other. I miss them both, probably because they had such wonderful writing skills. Actually, I miss many of the old timers who no longer ...

Back from four amazing days at Lake Cumberland. My cousins and I took my dad back to Grider Hill Dock. This is the place where our fathers were bass fishing legends. What a wonderful time, cruising the lake and having dad tell us stories about how they caught this fish, what crazy things happened over there, how he fished over there. It was just pure joy to listen to stories, have him bring back his brother, my cousins' dad, in these stories. We laughed, we listened and just had a great time. ...

Patti Page is singing The Tennessee Waltz, then here come the very old Four Aces, and so on.
Today was a perfect Autumn day but now that the time has changed the days seem shorter and it is time to strip the garden. My neighbors have brought me an abundance of red and green peppers and green tomatoes and yams (sweet potatos). Right now a huge pot of venison chili is cooking along with a green tomato casserole. I’ve spent the afternoon slicing and dicing. I’m adding chopped green tomatoes to my chili recipe. The South has a tradition of making pepper jelly to use through the holidays. ...

I just got around to reading today's FP and I loved Coral's essay. I don't remember from when it was printed before but I enjoyed it this evening. I wonder how much that one teacher's comments were responsible for the positive outlook that Coral continues. It's interesting that the thoughts remainded with her and made such an impression.

On days like today it is a good reminder for all of us to savor what we can.

Happy All Hallows Eve to everyone.

I walk through Columbus Circle. In the distance, Central Park shows off her autumn colours. A parade of browns, tawny red, golden yellow, and flaming scarlet. Breathtakingly glorious colour, and the magic that is New York City.

I intend to experience that magic once again next week. I leave early Tuesday morning for a few days in New York City. Autumn in New York! It really doesn't get much better than that.

Had a nice few days in my old stomping sand lot in 29 Palms. Went to the "Old-timers" day, and met up with some classmates not seen in about 45 years. Even discovered a couple of my recollections that seemed perhaps twisted by time were pretty accurate after all. Weather was ideal until Monday when the gusty winds began again. Was particularly annoying as I was trying to clean up wind blown debris from the carport and get trash out for the neighbor to take to the dump next week. ...

Richard Burton: A Regretful Au Revoir (from Dick Cavett)

You have to assume that Richard Jenkins — later, Burton — would have enjoyed the reaction of the readers to his resuscitation here. (And he would also, I guarantee, have gotten a kick out of the few nay-sayers who are apparently used to better stuff.)

I agree with the responder who wrote that he is already mourning the finality of this last episode with Richard. Should you be among the mourners, ...

It is time for Mother Nature to do the annual fall cleanup, which means more yard work for me, but it needs to be done. The cedars are shedding the golden brown old small limbs and twigs to allow for next spring's new growth of vibrant greens. The alders also are adding their leaves to the mix on the driveway, that includes the spruce, hemlock, fir, and alder cones that are getting blown down. The cones are excellent crafts material for this winter to add to wreaths.

I am helping a friend surprise her husband with books and CD's for his 73rd birthday and for Christmas. They have LP's and several of the older books, but she wanted to get him some CD's. She does not have or use a computer, so I get to be part of her surprise by ordering for her. She plans to order more for Christmas, but had to get the birthday order out now. I also have downloaded the music from ASPTL, as a special surprise from me. They are anxious to go to a concert, and I had to assure ...

Rod is always telling stories about the people he's known in show business, and it's funny how close we feel to these people on the big and small screens. But after 40 years of knowing Rod, wasn't it amazing (and heartwarming) to see the Rod interviews for Dutch TV special?

Here's another personality who was always on TV but I never really watched him for himself. Usually he was an MC, or talking to kids. But like so many of that generation, he's very smart and personable behind the scenes. ...

I would not say that I'm a little behind the times technologically but I just loaded my first iPOD.

Actually I've been thinking about getting an iPOD for quite sometime but just hadn't done it. Last night I won one so I came home and downloaded about 15 of my favorite CD's and synced them to the IPOD. Now I have them on my laptop as well as the iPOD and I can take them both to Myrtle Beach with me when I leave on Sunday.

How neat is it that Rod, Glenn, Neil, Sarah, Frank, Dean, The ...

This morning, while driving to the shop, I was listening to Radio 2 and heard that Terry Wogan is having a Barbra Streisand week. She has a new album out and he played her version of 'If You Go Away'. Very beautiful and I had goosebumps at the end! Anyone else heard it?

Good morning, everyone!

What a wonderful way to start the day: reading the flight plan, sipping Constant Comment Tea, wishing Jill a Happy birthday and finding out new issues are on the way!

Every so often life surprises you with a special start to your day - this is one of those days for me. Can you see me doing "the happy dance" over the new issues?

What fantastic news - being able to hear past concerts in digital excellence.

I can hardly wait for the memories to happen. ...

Life with Lily

Well, Lily is 10 weeks old and thinks she is the biggest cat in the house...until Andrew does a full Nelson on her and she starts screaming like a little girl (which she is). She crawls under the covers to sleep, purrs like a freight train and is just beyond sweet. Andrew is the official "manny" with her and Willy just tolerates her presence, but is back in the bedroom and sleeping in the bed again. Life with the kitties is fun and sweet.
